Checklist
Room-by-room home energy checklist.
Use this page when you want to walk through your home and find obvious waste before spending money. The goal is to narrow the problem, not to create a giant to-do list.
How To Use It
Look for the patterns that show up most often.
Living room
- Check for entertainment devices that stay on all day.
- Use smart plugs for lamps, fans, and media gear with predictable schedules.
- Replace old high-use bulbs with LEDs.
Kitchen
- Watch for an aging refrigerator running constantly.
- Notice extra appliances that stay warm or lit all day.
- Check whether under-cabinet or ceiling lights are still using older bulbs.
Bedroom
- Check window drafts and poor seals.
- Use timers for space heaters, fans, and bedside lamps where appropriate.
- Notice if the room is being over-conditioned while empty during the day.
Laundry and utility
- Look for dehumidifiers or older secondary freezers running more than expected.
- Check dryer vent health and overuse patterns.
- Measure suspicious plug-in devices with an energy monitor.
Windows and doors
- Feel for drafts around frames, thresholds, and obvious gaps.
- Use weather stripping and insulation kits where leakage is obvious.
- Pay extra attention to rooms that never hold temperature well.
Whole-home HVAC
- Check whether the thermostat schedule still matches your routine.
- Replace dirty filters and review temperature setbacks.
- If runtime is the issue, thermostat control usually beats niche gadgets.
